Parent Workshops:

 Free Educational Workshops are provided to improve parents' knowledge about the special education process in preschool and kindergarten.

Workshops are designed to help families understand EARLY CHILDHOOD SPECIAL EDUCATION, the transition process from Early Intervention to Preschool Special Education Services' and Preschool Special Education to School Age Services:

  • Least Restrictive Environments (LRE)
  • Preschool Special Education Services
  • Special Education Services in Kindergarten
  • Community Resources
  • Parents' Rights

Community Workshops:

Free Workshops are provided to special education providers on resources to promote positive social emotional skills, early language/communication and literacy, and the use of appropriate behaviors. In addition the workshops will provide information on how to improve opportunities for children with special needs in nursery schools and day care settings.

Community workshops presented by professional staff to the early childhood community include the following topics:

  • The Law and Students with Disabilites
  • Understanding the Special Education System and When to Make a Referral.
  • Working with Behaviorally Challenged Children in the Classroom.
  • Adapting the Curriculum and Teaching Strategies for Children with Special Needs.
  • Early Literacy

As part of the inclusion project free on-site technical assistance is offered to early childhood programs to help with:

  • Maintaining and including children with special needs in the general education environment.
  • Understanding ADA, IDEA and regulations governing the education of special needs preschoolers.
